I realize the following link is labelled “plants of Malta” but it is extremely informative on every aspect of the daisy, and you may find everything you wanted to know (and then some!) on that one page:
Investigation on daisies showed that the soil requirements are not specific, that daisies are widely adaptable. What I would recommend is that your soil be nicely aerated, with compost or peat mixed in. They grow just about anywhere with just about any soil composition.
As to when to plant, it would help to know what your “plant hardiness zone” is. But try this link for ever more information:
